Queen Regina

Film Story

SYNOPSIS
“One of the significant contemporary artists living today…Regina’s face should be on the back of the Australian five-dollar note” – Henry Skerritt, University of Virginia
With work in collections in Australia and around the world, Queen Regina is a documentary portrait that dives into the most significant moments of Regina Pilawuk Wilson’s life: from walking out of a Catholic mission, to starting the community of Peppimenarti, to becoming an acclaimed artist and ambassador for Indigenous people. Thread by thread, the film weaves together moments in Regina’s life—from her work in Peppimenarti to the starkness and commercialism of the contemporary art scene, and exploring the value of art, culture and success.

Over the years of working alongside Regina, we have become close friends. This documentary is a tribute to her life and the legacy she has created for Peppimentarti and Australian Aboriginal peoples.
