Allie - DOCUMENTARY SHORT

Film

Allie is an authentic Australian story about old cars, recovery from illness, and survival with a challenging condition.

This film came about as I found myself being the proud owner of a 1979 Holden Kingwood... Boy, that car was a conversation starter. Owning this car opened up a new world of car culture and soon I found myself on a Saturday night in parking lots filled with (mostly men, who adored and restored old cars.) I was there I met Bob, a sheet metal worker, and car enthusiast.
Bob has spent a lifetime rebuilding iconic Australian cars. He shared his story of having a near-fatal heart attack months earlier and told me how his partner and stepdaughter had helped keep him on track and showed him a deeper side of love. Shortly after my conversation with Bob, Allie arrived - she's 26 years old and suffers from severe Angelman syndrome. But despite her illness, she loves old cars and car shows more than anything. This is a story of the simple philosophy of happiness beyond recovery.

Thank you to Bob, Allie and Chris for sharing your story with me. Looking forward to another Sunday night roast next time I am in Melbourne.
